About Canine Calm Co.

Hi, I’m Melanie — founder of CanineCalmCo, lifelong dog devotee, and accidental candle alchemist.

I started CanineCalmCo because I realised my homes was full of scents that felt lovely to me – but were overwhelming to my dog. All the signs were there. I learned how fragrance affects dogs and I just couldn’t unsee it.

For years, I worked in the high-pressure corporate world. Eventually, I craved something gentler, more grounded, and more meaningful. With a Master’s degree in prosthetic effects, I already knew my way around moulds and pours — skills that unexpectedly became the perfect foundation for candle-making.

Travel has shaped me deeply. Over the past five years alone, journeys through India and Sri Lanka sparked a love for Ayurveda and natural wellness. I’m also a keen forager (though mushrooms still keep me on my toes) and have always been drawn to the quiet wisdom of nature.

Dogs have been my constant companions — four so far, each unforgettable. Today, Oliver, our resident “quality control manager,” keeps me company and keeps me honest. It was my concern about hidden environmental nasties and their impact on pets that inspired CanineCalmCo. The idea first took root while I was in India, and after months of research, I returned to the UK determined to bring it to life.

Our dogs deserve calm, clean spaces. I want to raise awareness and offer gentle solutions for their sensitive noses.

To build a Home Aroma brand which puts dogs first, involves education of the perils in our homes, but the journey will make it more than worth while.
